In recent years, the Resident Evil series has paid considerable attention to horror elements, but Capcom also intends to enhance the sense of horror in Resident Evil 9: Requiem.Recently, game director Koshi Nakanishi was interviewed by foreign media Games Radar, talking about how the game created a horror atmosphere, and even compared it with "Benevento House" in "Resident Evil 8: Village".
Nakaxi Akishi said: "There is definitely similarity between Resident Evil 9 and Resident Evil 8. I think each Resident Evil has some relatively independent parts, and players may not be able to use familiar weapons. We can use this to enhance the sense of horror."
The "similarity" mentioned by Chinese and Western Ages include the early content of "Resident Evil 7": The opening of "Biochemical 7" focuses more on horror creation and exploration, while the common point of "Biochemical 7" and "Biochemical 8" Benevento House is that players have almost no available tools or weapons to fight against the terrorist threats hidden in the shadow corners, and these parts focus more on making players feel helpless.
Similar to "Resident Evil 7", "Resident Evil 9" seems to present a horror chapter directly at the beginning, and then gradually return to the traditional gameplay framework of the series. But Nakamoto Akishi emphasized that the horror part of "Resident Evil 9" is not a copy of "Benevento House".
Nakashi Akishi explained: "We cleverly show the horror elements at the beginning of the game to fit the character setting of the heroine Grace - she is completely unfamiliar with the current environment and never expected that she would fall into such a horror situation. But we also want to add something new, so we won't just copy the Benevento House model. For example, in the trial version, the mechanisms of how players protect themselves from monster attacks, the design of the monster itself, and the feeling of being chased by it in this plot, these designs take the core concept of "a character without weapons in a confined space" to a new level."
"Resident Evil 9" will be released on February 27, 2026 and will be available on PC, PS5 and XSX/S platforms.
