Recently, CDPR vice president of public relations Michał Platkow-Gilewski said that the failed release of "Cyberpunk 2077" forced them to reflect and adjust their marketing strategies.
"We have been overly dependent on online publicity and have been obsessed with digital communications for a time, but this is a mistake," Michał said. "We have ignored offline activities. Without face-to-face conversations, we cannot really understand the ideas of the community, players and the media. It is very difficult to do this online."
Michał emphasized that "Cyberpunk 2077" failed to meet players' high expectations when it was released, which became a key turning point. In the promotion of the expansion pack "Shadow of the Past", CDPR specially created the global tour event Phantom Tour, which passed through Brazil, Japan and other places, inviting reporters, anchors and players to try it out to rebuild reputation and trust.
Similar ideas have also been applied in the release of the Switch2 version of "Cyberpunk 2077", which helps players to form more rational expectations through offline communication.
