Codemasters suspends development of rally racing games and terminates collaboration with WRC

EA's Codemasters Studio announced that it will stop developing rally racing games in the future, ending with the decades of the first Colin McRae game in 1998.

On Wednesday, Codemasters announced the termination of its partnership with the World Rally Championship (WRC) and will "suspend" the development plans for future rally racing games.

EA acquired Codemasters in 2021, a highly respected British studio that has developed rally racing games such as Colin McCree and Dust.

Codemasters said Wednesday: “Every great journey will eventually have an end, and today we announce that WRC development has come to an end. The 2024 season, including the recently released Hard Charger content package, will be our last expansion after the launch of EA SPORTS WRC in 2023.

Currently, we have suspended the development plan for future rally racing games.Rest assured that EA SPORTS WRC will continue to be available for both existing and new players.

Our collaboration with WRC marks the peak of Codemasters' development in the off-road racing field, and over the decades, we have worked together to create a variety of games such as Colin McCree Rally and Dust.We provide every rally enthusiast with a platform to push the limits tirelessly and bring the thrilling pleasure of driving on the rugged edges.
