Unreal 5 engine has brought many breakthroughs to the industry and has quickly become the most widely used engine in the gaming industry.Recently successful popular games, such as Light and Shadow: Expedition No. 33 and Elder Scrolls 4: Annihilation Remake, both use the Unreal 5 engine, and future 3A masterpieces like The Witcher 4 will also rely on Unreal 5.
"Hao" and "Marvel 1943" have also turned to Unreal 5 Engine
However, Epic Games has set its sights on the future.Epic CEO Tim Sweeney explores the future development direction of Unreal 6 engine in a new interview.
In an interview with Lex Fridman, Tim Sweeney said Epic Games has not yet determined when the Unreal 6 engine will be launched. However, he estimates that the preview version of the engine will be released in the next 2-3 years, which is around 2027 or 2028.
"It will take a few years. We may see the preview version in 2-3 years."
When talking about the main goals that Unreal 6 engine wants to achieve, Tim Sweeney discussed the programming language Verse, which is independently developed by Epic Games.Unreal Engine currently supports the language, as well as some other standalone features specially designed for Fortnite.
Epic Games is constantly iterating over the feature sets of Verse and Fortnite, with the ultimate goal of blending the two.
Unreal 6 should combine these elements to allow developers to gain greater freedom and expression through this technology. In addition, Unreal 6 is expected to be equipped with an open economic system and will be tested first in Fortnite.
