Suda's new work "Hotel Barcelona" has not been well rated - it currently has a user rating of 56% on Steam, which is in the "common" range, and critics don't like it either.
Today, Hotel Barcelona has updated its Steam page with an AI disclaimer. The statement acknowledged that "VHS videotapes can be found later in the game, which use narration from the AI text-to-voice service" and "a sign on these videotapes is made using generative fill AI."
In an update announcement released earlier today, CULT, the publisher of Hotel Barcelona, seemed quite ashamed of the whole thing.“We are working with White Owls Studio to replace this part with fully artificial content in future patches. After the patch update, there will be no Generative AI (GenAI) content in Hotel Barcelona,” the publisher wrote. “CULT Gaming has a clear position on Generative AI: We oppose any professional Generative AI usage behavior of the nature of creating disproportionate environmental impact, stealing real-person job opportunities, or training with unethical datasets.
"We sincerely apologize for the error in the review of the game content; we also thank the player community for pointing out this issue so clearly."
But the good news is that in addition to the disclaimer, the developer also said, "these content will be removed in the upcoming patches and instead uses non-AI-generated content."
This is just like 11 bit studio claims to the AI-generated content in "Multiple Life" - some placeholder content quietly gets through the game and enters the official version. Now the developer can only sigh and work again to remove it.
