According to foreign media Insider Gaming, Ubisoft's new "Ghost Recon" game will abandon its own engine and instead use Epic's Unreal 5 engine.
On the recent Insider Gaming weekly podcast, host Tom Henderson said: "This game will use Unreal Engine. Actually, Ghost Resolution was Unreal Engine before, but later they used Anvil and Snowdrop. I don't know why they did this, I guess, to return to the original feeling? It seems that they are going to use Unreal 5 this time, which is quite interesting."
It is worth mentioning that Ubisoft's 2004 Ghost Resolution 2 uses Unreal 2 engine, while other Tom Clancy games, such as EndWar and Rainbow Six: Vegas, are developed with Unreal 3 engines.
Recently, Insider Gaming also pointed out that the new Ghost Recon game will return to the originality of the series, taking a first-person perspective, abandoning the third person used in several past works.
The previous game in the Ghost Resolution series was Ghost Resolution Breakpoint, developed with Ubisoft AnvilNext 2.0 engine, which was also used to develop Extreme Kingdoms and Rainbow Six: Xenotypes.
Ubisoft's core engine was renamed Ubisoft Anvil in 2020, becoming the development platform for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Assassin's Creed: Fantasy, Assassin's Creed: Shadow, Blue Sea Black Sail and The Legend of Finnicks. The company's other engines include the famous Snowdrop, which has been recently used to develop Unruly Alliance, Star Wars: Outlaws and future Cell Division: Remake.
