Recently, SE disclosed a three-year business restructuring plan in its latest financial report, aiming to reshape the game development system and expand diversified revenue sources.According to this strategy, known as the "three-year restart of long-term growth", the company will set up a new R&D department focusing on AI development tools and implement unified management of future game projects.
In terms of internal development processes, the company has completely reformed its game management system.By reevaluating the development process, the studio management team has now fully led the development progress of large-scale projects. For example, a studio can promote large-scale stand-alone and MMO projects at the same time, while other studios focus on host or mobile game development respectively, and all projects are subject to unified coordination by the same IP management department.
The plan also emphasizes that it will more decisively suspend projects that are not going well, while increasing resources for potential works. This "dual-track strategy" not only ensures the quality of the game, but also optimizes the allocation of development resources. As an important part of the medium-term strategy, the company once again made it clear that it will adopt a full-platform distribution strategy instead of the PS5 limited-time exclusive model adopted by Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. This transformation has begun to show results, and the PC platform has brought significant increase in game sales.
This transformation originated from the commercial performance of masterpieces such as "Final Fantasy 16" and "Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth".The company announced in September 2024: "We will build a global distribution platform so that more players can experience our main IP and 3A-level masterpieces, including the remake of classic works." At the beginning of this year, the company's board of directors also experienced personnel changes, and "Final Fantasy 14" producer Naoki Yoshida withdrew from the board of directors.Although both parties did not specify the reasons in detail, Naoki Yoshida said in an interview in 2023: "I prefer to focus on game development rather than participating in board decisions."
Through these initiatives, SE hopes to diversify its business and expand its influence. As he said at the end of his financial report: "Create a new world with infinite imagination and improve people's lives."
