Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnik said Rockstar Games hopes its upcoming open world action game GTA6 to become the best entertainment product of all time.
In a recent interview, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnik shared new insights on the development of GTA6, talking about the launch plan for the highly anticipated game and the overall strategy to drive Take-Two’s success.Despite the slightly delayed release time of the game, he stressed that Rockstar Games is committed to bringing a breakthrough entertainment experience.
“It was a pretty short delay – less than six months,” Zelnik explained, downplaying concerns about the adjusted release timeline. He stressed that Rockstar’s goal is much more than creating another big video game.“Rockstar Games is trying to create the best work people have ever seen in the entertainment field, not just in the interactive entertainment field,” he said. “It’s a tough task and I think consumers have high expectations for the game.” That ambition is evident in the game’s second trailer, which scored a record 475 million views in just 24 hours, surpassing all previous records including Rockstar’s own work.
Zelnik also talked about the success of Take-Two's overall product.Games such as "NBA 2K", "Civilization 7" and "Red Dead Redemption" performed very well, with "NBA 2K" having an annual sales volume of nearly 10 million sets.In the mobile gaming space, Zynga continues to flourish in a highly competitive market, contributing more than 50% of the company’s net bookings.
When asked about the future of gaming platforms, Zelnik affirmed the importance of mobile platforms, while stressing that host and PC platforms still have an important position.“It’s not a migration,” he explains. “These platforms meet different needs at different times and sometimes serve different groups of people.” Although he doesn’t play video games himself, he made it clear that his role is to support the creative team, not interfere with their work.“My role is to attract, retain and inspire the best talent in the industry and then not interfere with their work,” he said.
As Rockstar strives to set a new benchmark for the entertainment field, GTA6 is expected to become a cultural milestone.
