EA is planning to lay off hundreds of employees and cancel a Titanfall game developed by Rebirth Entertainment Studios, which is said to be a evacuation shooter.According to insiders, about 300-400 positions have been laid off, and about 100 people in the Rebirth Studio were affected.
“As part of our ongoing focus on a long-term strategic focus, we have made selective changes within the organization to more effectively coordinate teams and allocate resources to drive future growth,” said Justin Higgs, spokesperson for the Redwood City, California-based company.
According to people familiar with the matter, the cancelled "Titanfall" game, with the project code name R7, is a shooting game set in the "Titanfall" universe. It was still far from its official release at that time.
Rebirth Studio posted on social media that the company "decided to abandon two early incubation projects and make some targeted adjustments to the team."
Another item mentioned in the statement was cancelled earlier this year, sources said.Rebirth Studios is known for the Apex Heroes and Star Wars Jedi series, and the company said it will continue to develop the next Star Wars Jedi game, as well as a new season and full revision of Apex Heroes.
Earlier this year, EA lowered its booking expectations for the fiscal year due to poor sales of the latest football game EA Sports FC 25.After the release of Dragon Age: The Guardian of Shadows, EA also reduced the size of BioWare studios, which the company said sold 50% lower than expected.
