Gearbox said they have heard from players on the Borderlands 3 loot system and have made comprehensive adjustments to the entire system and item drop rates, aiming to "return the fun of pursuing loot again."
Today, PlayStation hosted a live broadcast of State of Play Deep Dive on Borderlands 4, with Gearbox staff detailing the core elements of the Borderlands game experience – guns and loot.
We have covered gun-related content in the game, including new weapon slots added to five, three new weapons manufacturers, and adaptable guns, as well as the "authorized parts" combination system that allows you to mix and match different manufacturers' characteristics and abilities to the same weapon.
As for loot, Gearbox has given a broader overview, which sounds like a slightly new concept, roughly: reduce item drop rate and make loot precious again.
"We have made comprehensive adjustments to the item drop rate and loot system in the game. We work to make sure all gear feels better than ever, while also making the rarity of gear make it practical again. This makes the pursuit of loot the most satisfying we have ever seen."
Timins continued: "Of all the gear, the best one is Legendary equipment. These equipment have always had unique effects that are not found on any other equipment, but in Borderlands 3, Legendary equipment dropped too frequently. This not only reduces the value of Legendary equipment, but also makes everything less precious. In our new system, not only does all guns feel great, but now Legendary equipment will truly become a special existence. We have re-energized the process of pursuing loot, and we believe that everyone will love to work hard on the planet of Kyros."
