According to newly disclosed Nintendo patent documents, the company may be planning to introduce Nintendo DS game emulation capabilities to the Switch 2 platform. This patent was first discovered by user MikeOdysseyYT on the social platform. It contains multiple schematic diagrams, clearly showing the design solution to achieve dual-screen display on a single screen.

The patent diagram shows a variety of dual-screen adaptation modes, including layout methods such as picture-in-picture and side-by-side display.Although this technology can theoretically be used for new game development, the industry generally believes that it is more likely to be used to reproduce NDS classic games on Switch 2.As one of the most successful handheld consoles in history, the NDS platform has many masterpieces such as the "Pokémon" series. Its unique dual-screen interactive design has brought players an innovative gaming experience.
If this plan is implemented, it is expected that Nintendo will adapt the interface and optimize the operation of NDS games based on its previous treatment of the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) classic game library. At present, Nintendo has successively launched classic games from multiple generations of consoles such as Game Boy, N64 and even Virtual Boy through NSO services, and the addition of NDS will further improve its classic game ecosystem.
It should be reminded that Nintendo has not yet officially explained the specific application scenarios of this patent.According to industry practice, patent applications do not completely represent final product planning, and specific implementation plans still need to be subject to official announcements.
