Former "Dragon Age" producer talks about EA acquisition, selling idle IP is more useful than shutting down stu

Recently, former "Dragon Age" producer Mark Darrah was interviewed and talked about EA's $55 billion acquisition. He believes that after EA is acquired, in order to repay debts as soon as possible, EA is likely to consider selling a large number of its idle IP to ensure that the company will not be in a dangerous situation. And selling IP makes more financial sense than closing the studio.

"EA has never sold IP in the past, and a lot of that is because the people who are responsible for making these decisions and finding these opportunities are actually risk-averse. They don't want to be the ones selling the IP and turning it into a billion-dollar franchise. Their real motivation is to do nothing so they don't get into trouble," Darrah said.

He continued: "But times are changing, and EA has a lot of idle IP, and they have been idle, and it seems unlikely that the new structure after the acquisition will be eager to suddenly restart these IPs. So if conditions permit, selling them all for $100 million is the way to go, because $100 million can offset the debt... Or you can imagine poaching all parts of EA Entertainment that are not sports game publishing departments, and then selling the rest."

Darrah predicted that this could lead to some studios with long-unreleased games being sold rather than shut down, which would make more financial sense.
