When "Fable 2" was being developed, the studio repeatedly discussed whether to include dogs.

"Fable 2" creator Peter Molyneux revealed that the process of adding dogs to "Fable 2" caused controversy within the studio, mainly because the first time they tried to add dogs, the effect was so bad.

《神鬼寓言2》开发时工作室曾反复讨论是否要加入狗

Peter Molyneux, the creator of "Fable 2" said in an interview: "When I first entered the industry, making a sequel was a bit shameful, and people would think it was a money grab. Because of this, when I was working on "God Is Crazy 2", I was actuallyNot happy at all." But when it came time to make a sequel to "Fable," he said, "I thought, 'What the hell.'

Although the team quickly designed new monsters, new weapons and new creatures, Molyneux believes: "This is not enough. Fable 2 has to have something truly unique! So the idea of adding dogs was born." He also said: "Never mind the more powerful weapons, never mind the plot - the most important function in Fable 2 is the dog."

Since he was so convinced that the dog was the key to everything, everything related to the game should fall into place naturally, right? Molyneux explained: "The initial implementation effect was absolutely terrible. Of course, everyone said, 'Just delete the dog.'" But even so, he still insisted: "I was very determined at the time: No, the emotion that players can feel from it - that kind of unconditional love for pets, this is priceless."

The development process of the dog went through three versions. Molyneux said that the first version "was just a little idiot who could only yell blindly", while "the second version is more focused on gameplay-for example, the dog can attack enemies and trigger buffs."In the end, Lionhead Studios finally got it right in the third version. Molyneux said: "In the third version, I think the dog setting is really successful, especially in the ending of the game."
