Cairn caused quite a stir when it debuted at the 2024 Summer Game Festival. However, developer The Game Bakers announced today that "The Legend of the Mountain" will not be launched as originally planned on November 5, but will need to spend more time polishing and will be unveiled in early 2026.
The Game Bakers clarified that the game "content is completed", but the development team hopes to spend a few more weeks "focusing on optimization, debugging and polishing."
“Our goal has always been to create a game that players will never forget after playing, and for Lonely Mountain, it will take more time to achieve this goal, even though we have done our best,” the studio wrote.
"We did a lot of testing and we let us know that "Lonely Mountain" is a really special piece. But at the same time, we also see that there is still something to improve to present the best game for everyone. After five years of development, we are close to our goal and we don't want to launch it in a hurry."
The delay is really unpleasant (but it's better than launching a bad game), but if The Game Bakers thinks there is still room for improvement, then this delay may be a wise move - especially considering that the game seems to be a truly special work.
But there are also good news: the trial version of "The Alone Mountain" that is still available on Steam will be updated on October 13 - "In a limited time", players will be able to see other climbers' ghosts (aftermaths) when climbing Mount Tenzen: "You can compete with the best climbers, learn new skills, or discover new routes and hidden areas."
It should be noted that "Lonely Mountain" has not yet set a new release date, but The Game Bakers said the game will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2026.
