PlayStation seems to be gradually starting to phase out support for previous generation host PS4.According to an exclusive report by Insider Gaming, some traditional services on the PS4 will be discontinued in the spring of 2026.
Documents received by Insider Gaming show that PlayStation will gradually disable the old PSN feature of the newly submitted PS4 games in the spring of 2026.The document states: "This means that any new PS4 games submitted after this date will not be able to integrate the following older features."
Traditional features that are gradually deactivated include:
Activity Dynamics (Web API)
Title Small Storage (TSS)
Title User Storage (TUS)
Users and profiles
Word filtering
Shared Media (Web API)
According to the PlayStation documentation, “These services are designed to provide a more unified and scalable foundation for hosts across different generations.”
The PS4 was first launched in 2013 and is nearly 12 years old, and its successor, the PS5, will also usher in its fifth year.Despite this, there are still a large number of players active on the PS4 platform, and popular games such as Call of Duty will still be released on this platform, as many people have not upgraded to PS5 yet.
However, the news that PlayStation has begun to gradually disable some PS4 features this time may also mean that the platform's support is slowly coming to an end.
