The latest report from market research firm Circana shows that US players' spending on game subscription services in 2025 increased significantly compared with the same period last year.As game prices generally rise to $70 or higher, the cost-effectiveness advantages of subscription services like Game Pass and PlayStation Plus are becoming increasingly prominent.As of now, this type of service has generated US$3.6 billion in consumption in the United States this year.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella pointed out that cumulative revenue from non-mobile game subscription services increased by 19% year-on-year this year."As of now, non-mobile game subscription spending has reached US$3.6 billion, an increase of 19% from the same period last year," he said on social media.

In July alone, American players spent $500 million on game subscriptions: "Total game content consumption in July increased by 4% year-on-year to $4.5 billion. The growth mainly comes from mobile (7% year-on-year to $2.3 billion) and non-mobile subscription services (21% year-on-year to $500 million), offsetting the decline in console game consumption by 9%. However, no specific segmentation data has been released yet.

Microsoft and Sony's subscription services continue to expand, and the recent financial reports of the two companies also reflect this growth trend.Microsoft CEO recently confirmed that Xbox Game Pass generated nearly $5 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year; while Sony made nearly $1.2 billion from "network services" that included PlayStation Plus subscription revenue in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
