As we all know, The Hollow Knight is one of the most successful indie games ever.As the first masterpiece of Switch (selling 250,000 copies in the first two weeks), and with the players' high expectations for the sequel over the past six years, it is not surprising that such success is achieved. But it turns out that this melancholy style Metroid-like game actually sold more amazingly than expected.
In Bloomberg's latest interview, studio co-founders Ali Gibson and William Perlan revealed that "The Hollow Knight" has sold about 15 million copies since its release in 2017.Of these, 2.8 million copies came from before the official announcement of "Silk Song" in 2019, and another 12 million copies were sold in the following years.
Bloomberg's special report pointed out that the game's continued success allows the team to focus on developing "Silk Song" without worrying about funding."We're very lucky," Gibson told reporter Jason Schreier. "I hardly need to think about financial issues, which may be a privilege." This is in stark contrast to the dilemma of the team living on a remaining office sandwich and occasionally receiving $20 from parents when developing The Hollow Knight, clearly showing the studio's huge leap over the years.
"The Hollow Knight: Song of Silk" will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XSX/S, Switch, Switch2 and PC platforms on September 4.
