Shortly after the recent video showed the cruel melee gameplay of Dying Light: The Beast, game director Nathan Lemaire further revealed the details of the game's open world. In an interview, Lemaire said that "The Deserted Light: The Hidden Beast" has "the most diverse world that developer Techland has "probably created."
In the game, players will explore the Castor Woods area, which includes a variety of environments ranging from ruined towns to dense forests.Lemaire said the design provides players with a lot of opportunities to explore in each ecological area.
“We want to return to something that is closer to reality, and also want to explore new scenarios,” Lemaire said. “Through Custer Forest, we may have created the most diverse world for the series to date – mainly because it includes old towns, industrial areas, farmland, swamps and villages… The subtlety of this is that every ecological area can bring a new experience.”
Regarding map density, Lemaire emphasizes that Custer Forest "hides a huge amount of secrets": it includes both hidden places deliberately buried by developers (such as maps directed to hidden areas that players can discover), and also naturally triggered exploration content in the regular process. The game will also deepen the construction of the worldview through rich collections.
“I often emphasize ‘there are countless secrets in the Caster Forest’,” Lemaire explains. “We have prepared a lot of details for players: collections of extended background settings, anecdotal records about Caster Forest and its residents… This world is truly filled with such subtle details.”
The remarks echo the description of the open world by series director Tymon Smektala in June this year.Smektala once called this game "one of the most dense open world games on the market", and pointed out that Techland focuses more on creating a world of "high density" rather than "super-large scale".
“The core of the open world is not scale,” Smektala emphasized, “but it is immersion. We may not pursue the ultimate vast map, but through the authenticity of hand polishing, the satisfaction that players get will be greatly enhanced. The Deserted Light series is always committed to building a world where players can keep looking around and immersed in it throughout the journey.”
"The Deserted Light: The Hidden Beast" will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The PC/PS5/Xbox Series X|S version is scheduled to be released on September 19, while the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be released on subsequent dates.
