"Final Fantasy 14" director Naoki Yoshida recently hinted that this evergreen MMORPG is expected to be available on Nintendo Switch2 in the future.
As of now, Final Fantasy 14 has supported Mac, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S platforms. It is worth noting that Nintendo is always absent from the list - although a large number of players around the world play on Steam Deck handheld consoles, overcoming the text display problem in portable mode with their memory of interface layout and shortcut keys.
In an interview with VGC during the 2025 Cologne Game Show, Naoki Yoshida revealed that the team is actively exploring the possibility of transplanting the game to Switch2.
Naoki Yoshida not only hopes to bring "Final Fantasy 14" to Switch 2 players, but also plans to allow "Final Fantasy 16" to be launched on the platform."My goal is always to allow as many players as possible to experience Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 16, and I hope these two works will reach a wider range of players."
If "Final Fantasy 16" can be optimized for the picture and performance, logging in to Switch2 is natural. The porting of the MMO version is even more challenging - especially the interface adaptation problem faced under portable mode: The UI elements of "Final Fantasy 14" are dense and small, and require a lot of adjustments to be clearly displayed on a small screen.
It is worth mentioning that during the Cologne game exhibition, "Final Fantasy 14" released a two-way linkage activity with "Monster Hunter: Wilderness".The content is expected to be implemented in early October and will be launched through version 7.35 or an independent update.
