It has been more than ten years since BioShock: Infinity was released, and the development dilemma of new series of works means that players may have to wait several years to see the game.
Cloud Chamber Studios, which is developing a new generation of BioShock, will lay off more than 80 employees, accounting for about one-third of the team's total.According to Bloomberg, parent company Take-Two has decided to lay off employees, and the release plan originally scheduled to be postponed by the end of 2026 or early 2027 will also be postponed.
The development process of this game has always been bumpy, and this adjustment may mean that it will take several years to come for the new work. The previous work in the series, "Bioshock: Infinite", can be traced back to 2013.
To revive the project, 2K Games, who oversees Cloud Chamber, invited Rod Fergusson, who once led the Diablo team in Blizzard and helped complete the development of BioShock: Infinity, the studio was in charge.Fergusson previously publicly stated: "I am deeply grateful to the team for their work results so far and will do my best to create a BioShock game that we are proud of and love for players."
It is reported that 2K President David Ismailer pointed out when announcing the layoffs: "Although we are excited about the basic gameplay elements of the project, we have decided to remake the core elements of the BioShock series together with the studio leadership. To this end, we will reduce the size of the development team, focus on completing this work and extend the development cycle."
