In the Q&A session after the company's latest financial report, Sony CFO Lin Tao was asked about the current status of "Marathon" after its official announcement of its postponement and whether the game has been included in Sony's forecast for the current fiscal year.

The questioner also asked about the latest developments in Bungie's management and what Sony would do in the worst case if the Marathon was completely cancelled..

Sony's chief financial officer Lin Tao said the Marathon is scheduled to be released within the fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2026.

"First of all, in our performance forecast, we expect it to be released within the fiscal year. However, this is not a promise and has not been officially announced yet," she said through an interpreter.

“We are now making changes to the development process and depending on the progress, we believe in the fall we can announce when we will launch the Marathon, whether through Bungie or PlayStation,” she added.

Regarding Bungie's situation, Lin Tao reiterated that Sony's decision to take more control over the studio's management, with the ultimate goal of fully integrating it into PlayStation Studios.

She explained: “When we acquired Bungie, we gave it considerable independence, which was the idea at the time. However, after that, we had a structural reform (announced last year) and this independence was gradually decreasing, and Bungie was gradually turning to becoming part of PlayStation Studios, and integration was underway.

So in the long run, this process can be regarded as a continuous progression process, and Bungie's direction is to become part of PlayStation Studios.”

As for whether Marathon will be cancelled, Lin Tao said she currently does not expect it to be cancelled, saying: "We are solving the problem, so we believe the game will be released smoothly. If it is cancelled, we need to reevaluate the valuation, but it is not expected at the moment."

The Marathon was originally scheduled to be launched on September 23, but Bungie announced a formal extension in June, citing more time to improve and test.
