Although its shooting game project under development was cancelled last week indirectly due to Microsoft's massive layoffs, Romero Games, the studio of John Romero, the father of Doom, has issued a statement on social media, clarifying that the studio is not closed and saying "we are doing everything we can to make sure we don't get there."

Earlier, Romero Games said its FPS project released in 2022 was cut "together with several unannounced projects from other studios".This may be related to Microsoft's massive layoffs, during which several employees in the studio were laid off, some of whom said the entire team was disbanded and the studio was closed.
But this is obviously not the case, and even this still-unnamed game project may have hope of restarting. In a statement released on social media, Romero Games confirmed that the game's funds were revoked and cancelled as a result, but clarification studios were not closed.

"Any statement to the contrary is false," Romero Game wrote.“In fact, we are still discussing the next plan with the team today in the studio.”
The studio also said that several publishers have contacted them in hopes to help the game "complete development" and that the studio is currently "evaluating these opportunities."It shows that the game is not a real cancellation, but more like a dilemma of funding shortages.
