It is reported that Capcom currently has no plans to remake the Resident Evil 1, but may focus on the remake of "Resident Evil: Codename Veronica" or "Resident Evil 0".
Well-known insider Dusk Golem (also known as AestheticGamer1) responded on social media to questions about whether Capcom is developing a remake of Resident Evil 1.He clarified that as far as he knows and the latest news, the remake has not been put into development at present.According to him, the next main works that will be remastered are Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil: Codename Veronica.However, he believes that the "remake of the remake" of Resident Evil 1 may be launched in the next few years.
Regarding why he thinks the main works that will be remake next are Resident Evil 0 and Codename Veronica instead of Resident Evil 1, he lists four key reasons: First, Capcom M-Two Studio has several members (including supervisors and producers) who have participated in the development of the original Resident Evil 0, and now they are interested in making remakes; secondly, in a survey a few years ago, Capcom asked players what Resident Evil 0 works most wanted to see, and Resident Evil 0 and Codename Veronica far exceeded others;
Third, he mentioned that the scale of "Resident Evil 0" is less than that of "Resident Evil 5" and "Resident Evil 6" of the same period, and is in many ways the "easiest" remake of the remaining main works of the series; finally, Golem said that Capcom is waiting for the right time and conditions to advance the remake of "Resident Evil 1", hoping to allow "interesting creators" to participate in it in the most ideal distribution window.
As early as January 2025, the insider revealed that Capcom was preparing for the movie adaptation of "Resident Evil 0".
