Sony executives call Cosmic Robot the most successful story in PlayStation

Although Sony has shown in the past that it would make more family-friendly games after its success in Cosmic Robots, Hermann Hulster, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Studios Business Group, once again highlights the company's joy for the success of the game.In a PlayStation business update, Hulster called Cosmic Robots a "one of the most exciting success stories in recent times".

“Cosmic Robots have been a big success, received widespread acclaim among players and critics, and won a big win at the industry awards ceremony,” Hulster said of the highly acclaimed platformer launched in September 2024 as a PS5 exclusive. As part of the business update, Hulster also called Cosmic Robot a "new" game series, as three games with the character as the main character have been developed so far.

According to X user Genki_JPN, Hulster also talked about his hopes to make more "Cosmic Robot" games in the future, saying it will become "a long-lasting iconic game series for PlayStation."

Sony executive Hiroki Totoki expressed similar enthusiasm for "Cosmic Robot" as early as February, praising the game for being nominated for multiple awards in the 2024 Game Awards.Yuki Toshiro praised "Jedi Soldier 2" for similar reasons.

“In the 2024 Game Awards, our first-party game Cosmic Robot won four awards including Game of the Year and Best Family Game, the most award-winning of all games,” said Yuki Toshiro.

“In addition, the online service game Jedi 2 released last February won the Best Continuous Operations Game and Best Multiplayer Award. The ability to win these awards in the future, namely Family Games and Online Service Games, is an important step in building a broad portfolio of games.”

"Cosmic Robot" proved itself quite successful shortly after its release.Sony revealed in November 2024 that the 3D platform game sold more than 1.5 million copies in the first nine weeks after its release.

Since its release, the developers of "Cosmic Robot" have revealed many interesting details about the game. For example, creative director Nicolas Doucet revealed in a March interview that the beloved VIP robot level in the game was originally conceived as a mini level.

“(VIP level) was initially considered a mini level, but it became bigger and bigger,” Dussey said.“It’s not mini at all.”

Duchess also talked about how surprising it was for development team Asobi to see the success of the VR game "Cosmic Robots: Rescue Mission" (which is actually the first "Cosmic Robots" game).

“It’s an amazing project because we didn’t expect anything when we were making it,” Duchess said of the interesting experiments the studio was able to perform during the development of Cosmic Robots: Rescue Mission."We just want to improve that prototype as much as possible and help VR show people that VR can do this, that. We're trying to come up with as many original ideas as possible."

Cosmic Robot is available on PS5.The game can also be purchased with the console as part of the bundle.
