Square Enix officially announced that the development plan for "Kingdom Heart: Missing-Link" has been officially cancelled due to "difficulty in providing a long-term satisfactory service experience for players".However, the orthodox sequel to the series "King of Kingdoms 4" is still under active development.
This mobile game, positioned as "completion of the series timeline", was originally unveiled at the 20th anniversary event in April 2022 with the highly anticipated "Kingdom Heart 4".Similar to the previous work "Dark Road", this work aims to fill the plot gap before the first generation Sora's adventure. The project experienced a postponement adjustment in November 2024 before its termination.
The development team issued an announcement through its official social account:
"We have decided to terminate the development of "Missing-Link". We would like to express our deepest apology to all players who are looking forward to the launch of this game. Although the development team tried their best to adjust the content of the game, we finally judged that it would be difficult to provide a long-term service experience that satisfies the players. Special thanks to the players who have participated in multiple closed tests for the support and assistance. At this moment, we announced this decision with a deep heart. The "Missing-Link" series will continue to move forward. "Missing-Link" is under full development, so stay tuned for the follow-up information."
This is the second mobile game in the series that has died after "Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road" was suspended in 2020.Square Enix has recently reorganized its mobile game department and will focus on the operation of existing projects such as "Final Fantasy 7: Eternal Crisis" in the future.
