Just six months after the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive and Games Workshop surprised many by announcing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, which seemed a little too soon, especially considering the game was selling like hotcakes at the time and would receive a lot of support post-launch.

According to IGN, during the latest episode of Warhammer TV's Deep Strike show, creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick explained that this is not an issue at all for the development team and that the two projects will not compete for resources.
"Announcing a third game doesn't mean we're going to stop making content for existing games. The problem is, these projects have long development cycles. The development cycle for Starfighter 2 was about four years, and the development cycle for Starfighter 3 will be the same.
We are releasing this news partly to let everyone know that we will continue to launch more content, and there will be more in the future. But we've taken the same approach with DLC.A lot of DLC has been produced so far, and there will be more in the future. There is absolutely no resource conflict between them."
Saber Interactive has previously confirmed that the 2026 content roadmap for "Starfighter 2" is as follows:
Two new PvE missions
Technical Marine Class
Artificer's Weapon (Axe of Omnissiah)
Battleship Expansion
Strategy (new battlefield conditions and rewards)
progress update
New terminal enemies
Two new PvP arenas
PvP strategy
New siege map
In an interview with Warhammer TV, Hollis-Lake also answered a question about the Necron foreshadowing at the end of Starfighter 2:
"One of the characteristics of this universe is that it is vast and almost eternal. So if you dig deep under the surface of a planet, you may find all kinds of things. Therefore, it is not unusual to find suspected Necron tombs, or at least Necron technology, under the surface of a planet. And, in the plot, they seem to be working on something like Blackstone technology, although that's never explicitly mentioned. So whether we'll see more of them or not, I can't say, but it's definitely going to be a surprise to see at the end of the game."
