Recently, data analysis agency Alinea Analytics released a new survey report, counting and sorting out the best-selling PlayStation games on Steam.It is reported that the total sales of games released by Sony PlayStation Studio on Steam have exceeded 43 million copies, creating total revenue of more than 1.5 billion US dollars.Taking into account Valve's cut, Sony received a total of nearly $1.2 billion.
Top five sales:
1. "Battlefield 2" 12.7 million copies, revenue of $400 million
2. "Horizon: Zero Dawn" 4.5 million copies, revenue $170 million
3. "God of War" 4.2 million copies, revenue $150 million
4. "Days Gone" 3.4 million copies, revenue $108 million
5. "Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered" 2.7 million copies, revenue $116 million
Data shows that the sales of sequels are generally not as good as those of their predecessors."Horizon West", "God of War: Ragnarok" and "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" are not selling as well as their predecessors on Steam.
The report further pointed out that although Sony has been successful in releasing games on the PC platform, players' interest in PS games on the PC platform is slowing down.The current challenge facing Sony is how to find a suitable release window for PC platform games, "not only to protect the sales of PS5 software, but also to meet the growing expectations of PC users for timely release of games."
Hermen Hulst, head of Sony PlayStation, previously stated that Sony would not allow these games to be released simultaneously on the console and PC platforms in order to protect the PS console ecosystem."The single-player narrative games that we've launched in recent years and that PlayStation Studios has been delivering are our core products - we're taking a more strategic approach."
