Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser revealed in an interview with Lex Fridman that when they were making "Red Dead Redemption 2", Rockstar faced a lot of pressure internally because the budget was far over budget.
Dan Houser said: "The development of Red Dead Redemption 2 is seriously behind schedule and over budget. I don't want to think about it."

Houser explained that Rockstar Games was behind schedule and the various parts were not connecting smoothly, leading to widespread internal doubts about whether the sequel would be successful.
Houser said that "Red Dead Redemption 2" also took a lot of creative risks, which made the entire development process even more stressful. The main story, about a cowboy dying of tuberculosis, was inspired by Houser's grandfather, and incorporating that story was no easy task.
But as we all know, "Red Dead Redemption 2" was a huge success upon its release, breaking the sales record set by "Give Him Love 5".
Houser himself also praised this cowboy adventure game, saying that "Red Dead Redemption 2" is the best work he has ever developed. Although the game is full of violence, it is also full of love for life, which allows the game to establish a connection with a wider audience.
