Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially launched a cloud streaming service for PlayStation Portal devices, allowing PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream digital versions of PS5 games directly from the cloud. The update was launched globally at 18:00 Pacific time on November 5th (10:00am Beijing time on November 6th), becoming the most important upgrade to date for this handheld remote streaming device released in November 2023.
The new feature allows Premium members to directly stream compatible PS5 games in their personal digital library without connecting to a home console. It initially supports thousands of games, including "Space Robot", "Borderlands 4", "Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth", "Fortnite", "Give Him Love 5" and "Resident Evil 4", etc.In addition, hundreds of titles from the PS+ game catalog and classic catalog - such as "Cyberpunk 2077", "God of War: Ragnarok", "Hogwarts Legacy" and "The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered" - can now be streamed directly through the service.

The new feature allows players to play PS5 games on PlayStation Portal without booting the console or maintaining a local connection. It also supports multi-tasking, allowing one user to use cloud streaming while other members can still use the PS5 console to watch movies or run other games.

In addition to cloud gaming expansion, this update also reconstructs the user interface and establishes three core sections: remote gaming, cloud streaming, and search functions. The new layout integrates the entrance to the host connection and cloud session, and uses the QR code linkage function to facilitate users to quickly obtain unincorporated games through the PS App or web browser.

This update simultaneously brings a number of game experience and accessibility optimizations:
3D audio support: In remote play and cloud gaming sessions, compatible devices such as Pulse Explore earbuds and Pulse Elite headphones can achieve immersive sound effects
Password Lock: Added optional security feature to protect user data and limit unauthorized access
Network Status Interface: Provides real-time connection diagnostics to ensure optimal performance during streaming
In-game store access: In-game purchases can be made directly during cloud gaming without interrupting play.
Accessibility enhancements: Adjust text size and enable screen readers through dedicated cloud streaming settings menu
Game invitations: You can directly accept and join multiplayer game invitations through the shortcut menu while streaming
The launch of the cloud streaming function marks important progress in Sony's continued efforts to strengthen its cloud service infrastructure and expand its hardware and subscription service ecosystem.By integrating this function into PlayStation Portal, Sony aims to allow players to access their game library anytime and anywhere under a stable network environment, achieving a high degree of integration of remote play convenience and next-generation streaming technology. The official confirmed that improvements to the PlayStation Portal and cloud streaming services will continue in the coming months, and subsequent update plans will be announced one after another.
