According to a video analysis released today by McVicker, a well-known whistleblower who has been tracking Valve’s developments for a long time, the HLX project, which is generally considered to be “Half-Life 3”, is still progressing. The latest signs show that the project has entered a comprehensive optimization and polishing stage.

In a video posted to YouTube today, McVicker breaks down the improvements to the Source 2 engine coming to Counter-Strike 2 on October 15th.Different from previous updates that introduced a new system, this update mainly focuses on optimization and improvement, including adding automatic cleaning system resource processes, improving sound simulation and liquid simulation systems, etc.
Although the number of new features is smaller than before, this update still adds specific functional expansions to the HLX project: an expanded damage determination system that can be adapted to non-humanoid enemy models; and an asynchronous particle simulation system that can dynamically adjust particle effects based on real-time wind speed.
What sparked the most discussion in the community was a new resource group icon labeled “science.”McVicker speculates that this has limited significance for the Half-Life 3 project, because judging from all updates so far, the game is clearly in a polishing stage that no longer adds resources. While this is typically the final stage of development, Valve may still be years away from completion, so there's no sign that the game is imminent.

However, there are still reports that the project is in the works.According to rumors, a trailer for the HLX project is already in the works. If we follow Valve's marketing and release model for "Half-Life: Alyx", the game may be released soon after it is officially announced.
Although McVicker speculates that there may be news about the HLX project in November, considering that past predictions have not come true, this still needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The only thing that's almost certain right now is: the Half-Life series is far from over.
