Borderlands 4's Randy Pitchford said in a recent interview that some players may not even see the upcoming pearl-colored rarity weapons because players will have to "put in a lot of effort" to get them.
Any veteran player of the "Borderlands" series knows that the essence of each game in the series is to repeatedly farm equipment to obtain the rarest and most exotic firearms in the game. There are currently only four weapon rarity levels in Borderlands 4: from common weapons that can be found everywhere and are often exchanged for money, to truly legendary weapons that are much more difficult to obtain.

While legendary weapons are difficult enough to obtain in Borderlands 4, they're not the rarest gun type in the game.At least not in the future - Gearbox has previously confirmed that pearl-colored weapons will return in the first quarter of 2026 update, and judging from Randy Pitchford's statement, the rarity of such weapons is astonishing.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Pearl is the highest rarity level in the Borderlands series.Pearl-colored weapons have been available since the DLC "General Knox's Secret Arsenal" of the first game in the series.Since then, they appear in Borderlands 2's highest difficulty levels, but are completely absent from Borderlands 3.
When "Borderlands 4" did not launch pearl-colored weapons after its release, many players worried that such weapons would be completely abandoned, but Gearbox later confirmed that they would be available in subsequent updates.Randy Pitchford revealed some details about the pearl-colored weapon in a recent interview.
When asked about pearl-colored weapons and their return in Borderlands 4, Pitchford said that pearl-colored weapons are much rarer than legendary weapons and "not all players" will be able to see them during play.He said that judging from the probability, most players will not encounter pearl-colored weapons at all.
"There are players who have been playing this game for five years and 3,000 hours, and they're still saying, 'I've never seen this before, oh my god.'" - Sam Winkler said.
Having said that, there are still some players who "spend a lot of equipment or put in a lot of effort" and will encounter pearl-colored weapons more frequently. At present, we still don’t know the specific acquisition mechanism of pearl-colored weapons in “Borderlands 4”, but judging from Pitchford’s statement, it will still be extremely difficult to obtain such weapons.
