The creative director revealed in an interview that the next game from Sandfall Interactive, the developer of "Light and Shadow: Expedition 33", may not continue the same game type or art style.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Guillaume Broche said that although "Light and Shadow: Expedition 33" has been a huge success, selling more than 5 million copies, this does not mean that their next game will follow the same formula.
The report pointed out that the "rebound" mechanism in "Light and Shadow: Expedition 33" and the design that can still move during the enemy's turn were inspired by the "Devil May Cry" and "Mario & Luigi RPG" series respectively. But it's too early to tell whether Sandfall will lean more toward action gameplay in its next game.
Broche said in the interview: "We don't want to be limited by the story, art style or gameplay. We have nothing to disclose yet, we just hope that the next work can make people feel sincerity and love."
Elsewhere in the article, Broche also mentioned that Expedition 33’s big update is a way for the studio to thank players for their support.
"This isn't exactly a big DLC expansion, but something we call a 'Thank You Update.' We've received so much love from the community and players, so just wanted to show our appreciation."
This update is in development for all platforms and does not yet have a release date. The update will add a new explorable area, bringing "new enemy encounters and surprises to be discovered."In addition, new late-stage boss battles, new costumes, and “more surprise content for fans to look forward to” will be added.
In another interview in August this year, Broche explained that the "rebound" mechanism was not added to attract players who don't like turn-based RPGs, but out of pure gameplay design considerations.
“We didn’t add parrying and create this narrative experience because we were worried that the game would be labeled as biased, we just wanted to do it.”
