As the release date of "Outside World 2" approaches October 29, creative director Leonard Boyarsky recently revealed the role played by Fallout founder Tim Cain in the development of this work.Boyarski said Kane shared his overall vision for the series, and both plan to "significantly expand the breadth and depth of the game world" in the sequel.
Speaking of the first generation of Outer Worlds, Boyarski said: "We built this worldview, but it only presents a smaller part of it. If we could make a sequel, I always plan to 'greatly expand its breadth and depth'. Because the first generation is smaller and we have more time and resources, we have to compromise in many ways to make the content shorter and easier to digest. In many ways, Outer Worlds 2 fulfills the vision we had when we were making the first generation."
Boyarski also stressed the need to ensure that the narrative does not prevent players from having an immersive experience in the game while keeping the story engaging and rhythmic.Although the technology has advanced since its first release, he firmly believes that players should focus on enjoying the fun of role-playing without being hindered by the story.
“For me, the core is always the story, the world and the narrative,” he explains, “and it’s crucial that the story doesn’t prevent the player from spending good time with his characters. I don’t think that will change with the technology.”
Adhering to this philosophy, creative director Brandon Adler previously talked about giving players a high level of freedom in character building and gameplay style. He pointed out that in RPGs of this scale, "you will have extremely complex systems" and players can fine-tune their characters according to their preferences.
“If you love stealth, you can dig deeper into this,” Adler said, “If you’re a combat maniac who just wants to explode and don’t have to worry about stealth at all.” “We’re happy to offer a variety of ways to deal with challenges, but to achieve this, I think it’s necessary to make sure that the early experience is easy to understand and then gradually introduce complexity,” he added.
Adler also made it clear that "Outside World 2" will not provide the function of "washing points" (reassigning skill points). He explained that the move was designed to ensure that the decisions players make on character building have meaning.
"We often see some games that allow infinite washes, but to that level, I think players are no longer really playing a role, because characters always jump between different identities - for example, my character is a top assassin who is good at long-range sniping, and then suddenly becomes an eloquence expert, then wash them and change directions... For me, it is certainly true that players like to play like this," Adler said.
"Outside World 2" will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms on October 29.
