Assassin's Creed: Shadow Canon mode does not contain romantic elements because it is too personal

Love will not die, but in Assassin's Creed: Shadow, it certainly does not fall into the category of canon, at least so what Ubisoft developers think.

《刺客信条:影》正典模式不包含浪漫元素 因为太私人

Recently, during the Reddit AMA Q&A session, Ubisoft developer Luc explained to fans that the canon mode of "Assassin's Creed: Shadow" completely eliminated the romantic elements because Ubisoft believes that this is unreasonable.“Romantic elements are something very personal.”

Luc said: "We think it would be better for an Assassin's Creed game not to include romantic elements into the canon, and it would be better for players to customize their own 'canon'. In Shadow's non-canon mode, players can choose dialogue and mission results more flexibly. The protagonists Yasuke and Naoe both have their own sincere love objects, as well as more choices for innocence and flirting.

But in the canon mode, these sweet feelings are gone, which is inconsistent with what Deputy Narrative Director Brooke Davies said at the end of 2024.At the time she said: "Naoe and Yasuke can choose who to recruit as ally, who to establish a friend or love relationship with - whether it is a short and sweet encounter or a long-term company."

Looking back now, Davis' emphasis on "choice" may always point to the non-canonical mode of the game. This was disappointing but not surprising. After Assassin's Creed Odyssey, some players complained that they were forced to fall in love.Nowadays, "Assassin's Creed: Shadow" fans believe that this "no romance" retreat may be thanks to those players.
