Foreign media DsoGaming tested the performance of the PC version of "Four Seas: Hometown" and the DLSS 4 frame generation. The game uses Unreal 5 engine and supports DLSS 4 multi-frame generation function.
Test configuration:
CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X3D
Memory: 32GB, DDR5 6000Mhz
Graphics card: RTX 4090/RTX 5080
System: Windows 10 64-bit
Driver: GeForce 580.88
Since "Four Seas Brothers: Hometown" does not have a built-in scoring tool, foreign media adopted the scene of Don Torrisi’s villa, which is the one with the highest requirements for PC in the early days of "Four Seas Brothers: Hometown", which can give the above flagship GPUs enough pressure and space for performance.
First is RTX 4090
1080P/The lowest frame is 55FPS, less than 60, and the average is 68FPS
2K/highest image quality, minimum 42FPS, average 51FPS
4K/highest image quality, minimum 31FPS, average 39FPS
It can be seen that under the highest native picture quality, "Brothers of the Seas: Hometown" really has high hardware requirements, and even Nvidia's previous generation of Card King RTX 4090 has kneeled down.
The good news is that you can turn the image quality to "high" gear, which greatly improves performance. In "high" gear, the frame rate is much higher than 60FPS at native 2K resolution.Turn on DLSS 4 image quality at 4K resolution, and the frame rate can always exceed 60FPS (72-78FPS).Foreign media pointed out that this is just a stress test.Other areas will perform better than this.
Then there is the RTX 5080 situation
The RTX 5080 has a minimum image quality of 1080p/highest image quality of 44FPS (lower than RTX 4090), with an average of 55FPS and less than 60 frames.Once the resolution is increased to 2K and 4K, the frame count will drop.
Even if DLSS 4 picture quality is turned on, it is impossible to reach 4K resolution 60FPS at the highest picture quality settings. To reach 60FPS in 4K/maximum image quality settings, the only way is to enable DLSS 4 image quality and frame generation.
"Brothers of the Seas: Hometown" supports multi-frame generation (MFG) technology.Unfortunately, this game is not as effective as Doom: Dark Ages or FBC: Firebreak.Foreign media quickly moved their perspective to take some screenshots, which can clearly see many visual problems.Especially the fourth screenshot, the effect was very bad, and some of the maps of the horse and the protagonist disappeared. In general, there are serious problems with the multi-frame generation (MFG) technology of this game and needs to be repaired properly.
Although MFG has the picture problems mentioned above, it performs quite well in smoothing game performance.I was able to fully enjoy the game on the RTX 5080 when turning on the DLSS 4 quality mode and 4x MFG at 4K/maximum quality.I was very surprised that despite the low base frame rate, I didn't have any obvious delay lag issues. This is one of the few times when the delay is completely unaware of when using MFG.
So, you might think that the best experience now is DLSS 4 quality mode plus MFG, right? Unfortunately, for players who want to use DLSS 4 Super Resolution (SR), we have bad news.Unfortunately, the DLSS 4 SR of this game is implemented very poorly. At present, the screen effect of TSR is even better than DLSS.In our test area, when DLSS 4 is turned on, there is a lot of flashing on the grass; when using TSR, the picture is more stable and sharper.Objects such as plants, cables and buildings in the distance also have less jagged feel. This is the first time I have seen TSR beat DLSS 4 in quality.I showed these issues in the video and have also fed back the situation to Nvidia, hoping that they can solve it with new drivers or game patches.
"Four Seas Brothers: Hometown" also supports AMD FSR 3.1.But on NVIDIA RTX 5080, the AMD FSR 3.1 frame generation option is not available. Here is a screenshot.Maybe the game will automatically lock the AMD FSR 3.1 frame generation on the RTX 50 series graphics card? I'm not sure what's going on.I just know that I can generate it with DLSS 4 frames, but not with AMD FSR 3.1 frames.
In general, "Brothers of the Seas: Hometown" is currently in a relatively awkward state.Almost no one can run smoothly with the highest image quality at native resolution - yes, not even the RTX 5090.The only way to reach 60FPS or above in these settings is to enable DLSS 4 and frame generation. However, currently, DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation have many picture problems. Therefore, the best way to play at present is to use TSR (and in this work, TSR cannot be used with DLSS frame generation).
