Rod Fergusson, who has served as general manager of Diablo for the past five years, is about to leave Blizzard.
He recently announced the news on social media: "After pushing the Diablo series forward five years and completing four major releases, it's time to get a sword away from Blizzard/Microsoft and see what's going to happen next. The team is ready for success and there is a series of exciting versions coming soon.I am extremely proud of everything we have built together, and look forward to Diablo and my next steps.”
Rod Fergusson joined Blizzard in 2020 after leaving Microsoft's The Coalition.Previously, he was involved in the development of all Gears of War games during his tenure at Microsoft and Epic Games.
At Blizzard, Fergusson was responsible for coordinating the Diablo series and joined the team shortly after Diablo 4 was first announced. He has been interviewed many times and talked about his vision and vision for the future direction of the Diablo series.
In April this year, Blizzard released the roadmap for "Diablo 4" in 2025, but it did not receive good reviews from players. The reputation of the first expansion film "Hateful Body" collapsed, and Steam's comments were "mostly bad reviews".
After the news was announced, Blizzard President Johanna Faries said: "Helping a series like Diablo requires rare talent, vision and cooperation. Rod, thank you for bringing all of this. Because of your influence, the future of the Shelter will be brighter!"
Xbox chief Phil Spencer added: "You bring power, hellfire and vision to one of the most iconic series in the gaming world. It's great to play Diablo 4 with you - thank you for everything you've done for this game and the community."
As of press time, Blizzard has not announced Fergusson's successor and has refused to disclose the reason for his resignation.
