Although Mintrocket’s debut, Dave Diver, looks like an indie game, the studio itself isn’t.

Mintrocket was originally a sub-brand of the Korean company Nexon (Nexon focuses on developing high-budget and long-term service-oriented games such as First Descendants and First Berserker: Kazan).Mintrocket was created to develop games with low risk and high returns so that even if it fails, it will not have a serious impact on the parent company.
In an interview with Japanese media 4Gamer, Mintrocket CEO Huang Zaihao explained that the studio is part of Nexon's "Big & Little Strategy".In order to develop more unique and creative games (rather than just developing projects that are expected to respond “safe”), Nexon divided its development power into “big” projects (high success rates) and “small” projects (projects that allow more creative freedom).Nexon is responsible for the development and distribution of large projects, while Mintrocket is responsible for smaller, more experimental projects.

Huang said that the "big and small strategy" stems from the current status of the game industry: development costs continue to rise, but the success or failure of large AAA games is becoming increasingly unpredictable, forcing developers to focus on making sequels and remakes of existing mature IPs."I don't think anyone can predict the success of games like Joker and Light and Shadow: Expedition No. 33. It's difficult to predict the future and develop a strategy."
Despite the success of Diver Dave and Mintrocket has more creative autonomy over its projects, the studio plans to continue making small games. This is because it has cultivated a healthy work philosophy: focus on making unique games with a small number of people.
