Asked about the lack of criticism of the Sword Star narrative and whether the studio has plans to expand or strengthen the main story in the future, Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung-tae responded:
"First of all, I really thank all the players who love the PC version. I do think the criticism of the weak story is justified. The game's core gameplay system was completed relatively early, but what really dragged us down was cutscenes. In an action game carrying its own narrative, cutscenes are crucial to storytelling - because it's hard to convey the entire story in full by action alone. Another factor is that in Korea, the development infrastructure and talent pool of narrative-driven games are still not fully established."
Speaking of the sequel, Kim Hyung-tae said they believe they will do better this time.
"There is indeed a shortcoming in the narrative aspect, and we are now cautious about hasty patching this in Sword Star, as this may conflict with the stories players have already accepted. However, if we have the opportunity to develop a sequel, I believe we can present a richer and more complete narrative."
