Chris Brock, executive producer of "Borderlands 4", was interviewed by Gamereactor. He said that compared to "Borderlands 3" in 2019, the new work "Borderlands 4" is more like a major evolution.
He said: "Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3 were about seven years apart, and we disappeared for a while. We wanted to make sure that when we returned, everything was still so familiar. When people say it felt more like Borderlands, that was exactly what we were aiming for. We wanted to make more Borderlands games, we wanted to evolve, but we wouldn't change the templates so much that we couldn't feel the taste before.
But from 3rd to 4th generations, one of the things we want to focus on is time travel ability and exploration. And this has led to the evolution of the series. I want to say that the evolution is even greater than from 2 to 3 generations.”
In the same interview, senior screenwriter Taylor Clark explains why Borderlands 4's sense of humor is different from previous games.
"The most important thing for us is to find a tone that matches the world we are building and the stories we are trying to tell. On Pandora, like the Wild West, the shotgun-like strategy is reasonable. Because it's a world where everything is possible. In that world, everything wants to kill you, businesses kill each other. And handsome Jack always stares at you and says something vicious tone to you. In that world, this slightly malicious tone makes sense.
But on a planet ruled by an iron fist, this tone seems less reasonable. This tone really doesn't make sense. This tone feels like a bad fit when we are in an extremely depressing world (like firing jokes with a T-shirt cannon). We strive to find humor.Without humor, it cannot be called the "Borderlands" game.”
Borderlands 4 will be released on September 12, and will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the Switch 2 version will be released later.
