People Can Fly (PCF), a developer of Bullets Storm and Outriders, announced layoffs and canceled two unannounced games, namely Project Gemini and Bifrost.Project Gemini was originally planned to be released by SE, while Bifrost is a VR game.
In the "Important Update" letter released by the studio CEO, PCF CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski said:
"We suspended the Gemini project because the issuer did not submit a new draft supplementary agreement to us, clarifying the terms and conditions for the subsequent development phase of the project. At the same time, the issuer did not communicate with us on whether he would continue to advance or terminate the project.
The suspension of the Bifrost project is also due to the above reasons, and the Group's cash flow analysis shows that we cannot obtain sufficient organizational resources and funds to maintain the development and issuance of the project within the foreseeable time.
So we had to do a massive restructuring of the studio and reduce the team size, which was the biggest blow to us.
We deeply regret and sad about the development of the situation, and sincerely thank everyone for their efforts and contributions during this period.”
It is worth mentioning that as early as January last year, PCF laid off more than 30 employees responsible for developing the SE game Project Gemini. In December last year, You laid off more than 120 employees. This means that just half a year later, the PCF made another layoff.
People Can Fly Studio celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022. It belongs to Epic Games from 2012 to 2015. It is the developer of games such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Trial and SE Outriders.
People Can Fly Studios is currently working on several projects, including this year's Xbox game Gears of War: Incident Day, and a PlayStation IP game that has not yet been announced.
In April this year, People Can Fly announced the cancellation of a collaborative action RPG codenamed "Project Dagger", a game that has been in development for several years. After the original publisher Take-Two Interactive abandoned the "Dagger Plan" in 2022, the company originally planned to release the game itself.
