Foreign media Insider Gaming exclusively revealed that Ubisoft is currently developing a new battle royale game, which is deeply inspired by EA and Rebirth Entertainment "Apex Heroes".
Ubisoft's mysterious battle royale game is codenamed Scout
It is understood that Ubisoft's Battle Royale game has been in development for at least a few years and will have "very similar" characters to "Apex Heroes", including variants of Pathfinder, Wraith, Lifeline and other characters.
"I think our goal is to take advantage of the decline in the number of Apex Heroes gamers and their (Ubisoft executives) that there is more room for battle royale games in the market," a source said.
Interestingly, the project seems to be contrary to the idea of Ubisoft’s internal research team, which recently raised the question of “what’s next step after Battle Royale” and pointed out that the number of players in multiple battle royale games, including Apex Heroes, is declining.
EA itself admits that "Apex Hero" no longer brings the company the benefits it deserves.EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the game will launch a "major update" called "Apex Heroes 2.0" in the future.
As for whether EA can revive the series, it remains to be seen, but at least in Ubisoft's view, there is still room for the battle royale game similar to the "Apex Heroes" style.
