Nintendo recently quietly deleted descriptions of variable refresh rate (VRR) support from the official Switch2 website in some areas, suggesting that the new console may not eventually be equipped with the feature.
According to Oliver Mackenzie of Digital Foundry, the official website of the United States has updated the content since the Switch2 face-to-face meeting and removed the description of VRR support for dock mode.
The current official website shows: "When connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 to a compatible TV through a dedicated dock, it can support up to 4K resolution output. The system also supports HDR and achieves up to 120 frames of picture performance on compatible TVs."
Not only the official website of the United States, but also the official websites of Canada and Japan have also removed the relevant descriptions simultaneously.Up to now, the UK official website only retains the instructions of "supporting HDR, VRR and up to 120 frames", but Nintendo may be gradually unifying the versions of each regional.
Although Nintendo did not specify the reason for the modification, Mackenzie speculated that the VRR feature might not be available at the start. However, thanks to NVIDIA G-Sync technology, the handheld mode will still achieve a "super smooth and tearless gaming experience".
In the face-to-face meeting earlier this month, the detailed specifications of the Switch2 have been fully disclosed: the screen has been upgraded from 6.2 inches to 7.9 inches, the built-in storage has been increased to 256GB, and the mouse function support of the magnetic Joy-Con controller has been added.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be launched on June 5, 2025, with the Mario Kart World Bundle priced at $499.99.
