For decades, the PC game market has dominated, with nearly 1 billion players and more game sales than consoles. However, a new report shows that PlayStation has maintained significant growth in gaming duration for years.
The "2025 PC and Console Game Report" released by the research company Newzoo shows that although PlayStation continues to develop, the PC and Xbox platforms can only maintain stability and avoid declines. Not only that, the play rate of new games on PlayStation is also higher than that of old games.
Sony has performed so well that the report calls PlayStation the "only highlight" in the gaming industry.
PlayStation has seen a growth in the number of games played around the world, with the most significant growth in South Korea (+52%), France (+20%) and the United Kingdom (+18%).Instead, Xbox and Steam fell globally, with Japan and South Korea falling the most on both platforms. This means that more players around the world prefer to play games on the PS platform.
In addition, between 2021 and 2024, PlayStation has the most stable participation of players in various games. The average number of games played by Steam and Xbox players has dropped significantly, ranging from 6 to 13 models.
The report also predicts that the console market will drive the gaming industry by 7% from 2024 to 2027, while the PC market is expected to contribute 2.6%.
At the same time, the report pointed out that 58% of PC game revenue comes from microtransactions, and Steam users are more inclined to play non-competitive and PvE games than console players.
