In January this year, it was confirmed that Switch 2 was backward compatible with Switch games, but some Switch games may not be fully compatible.
According to the news released by Nintendo China Hong Kong official website, according to data updated on April 1, 2025, the compatibility test of Switch games on Switch 2 shows overall good backward compatibility:
The test covers Nintendo's own 122 games and more than 15,000 third-party partner games.
Nintendo's own games performed particularly well, about 99% of them can run without problems, and only 1% are completely incompatible
In third-party games, about 22% can run normally, 75% can be started but need further testing, 2% can be played but some content has problems (see the table below), and 1% encounter problems when starting (see the table below).
Overall, Switch 2 has high compatibility with Switch games, especially Nintendo's own games run almost seamlessly, but there are more problems with third-party games.
As testing is still underway, it is scheduled to be updated again later in April, and compatibility is expected to be further improved in the future.
