Nintendo launched the game voucher program in May 2019, allowing players to purchase two Switch games at a discounted price. If players purchase a set of two vouchers, they can then redeem almost any full-price first-party Switch game, including pre-orders for the upcoming "Alien Sword X Ultimate Edition".
Nintendo, however, has now updated its Switch Game Voucher page, making it clear that when the Switch 2 games start to be released, they will not be included in the game voucher transaction.
"Please note that the Nintendo Switch game redemption voucher cannot be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games," the page reads.
It is not entirely clear whether the decision is due to the fact that the Switch 2 games will be more expensive, or because Nintendo did not think it was necessary to stimulate sales during the Switch 2 start, or for other reasons.
It should be noted that while the Switch gaming voucher program will not be available for Switch 2 games, there seems to be no plan to terminate the current Switch gaming service.
