According to Microsoft's latest Q2 financial report, its gaming division revenue fell by 7%.In the three months ended December 31, 2024, the gaming sector generated revenue of US$6.6 billion, down US$530 million from the same period last fiscal year.
The decline in revenue was due to a decrease in the number of Xbox Series consoles sold in the quarter, causing Xbox hardware revenue to drop by 29%.
However, due to the release of games such as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6", Game Pass PC grew 30% last quarter and set a new quarterly revenue record.In terms of cloud gaming, 140 million hours of streaming time have been recorded.All of this helped Xbox content and services revenue grow by 2%.
Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2023, in the process gaining copyrights for series including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo and Overwatch.This led to a significant increase in sales in its gaming division in the second quarter of last year and in the following three quarters.
The three months to December 2024 are the first time that quarterly comparisons can be made since the completion of the $75.4 billion Activision transaction.
Microsoft CEO Nadella revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 topped the Xbox and PlayStation sales lists, setting a record-breaking starting quarter.
Nadella also said that since its release in December, "Raiders of the Lost Ark: Ancient Circle" has attracted more than 4 million players.
